CoreMedia Documents
CoreMedia uses the term "documents" to refer to all content types in CoreMedia such as Pages, Collections, Downloads, etc. This list offers a brief description and usage of each of the primary CoreMedia document types you will encounter.
This is probably the most widely used CoreMedia Document type. This is the basis for most content components (C0XX). It allows for teaser information, items and pictures. Specific usage for each component can be found in the Content Author Guide.
While primarily used for "documents" such as PDFs, PowerPoint, etc., this CoreMedia Document type can also be used for other content such as images for download.
A Event Teaser is used by the News & Events results page to generate the events that are shown. The Event Teaser requires several fields in order to allow to appear on the results as well as being tagged with the available attributes in the facets to allow a user to filter content. How to use the Event Teaser is available on the News & Events page under Sitewide functionality in the navigation
External Links are used when you wish to show content from a site outside your current site including any other subdomains on emerson.com. This can also be used if you wish to have a vanity URL link point to a page that may change over time on your own site. These CoreMedia documents are most often used in the Teaser Target field of a Teaser.
This is a special purpose CoreMedia Document specific to the C018 Full Width Image component. See the Content Authors Guide for details on how to construct this component.
Note: any use of this CoreMedia Document must be registered with Corporate IT on SharePoint. Any use of raw HTML could have repercussions on site performance and may only be used if approved. Periodic audits will be conducted to find undocumented HTML Fragments and remediate where necessary.
While you will never use this CoreMedia Document in authoring of content it is useful to know its existence. One exists fore each layout variant that has been built in CoreMedia. You can utilize this in a Library search to filter for all uses on a particular layout variant on a local or within a set of folders.
A News Teaser is used by the News & Events results page to generate the articles that are shown. The News Teaser requires several fields in order to allow to appear on the results as well as being tagged with the available attributes in the facets to allow a user to filter content. How to use the News Teaser is available on the News & Events page under Sitewide functionality in the navigation
A Page is the CoreMedia Document where you will assemble all of your other CoreMedia Documents for displaying on the website. Although a Page includes a Teaser section, you will generally want to use a Teaser when incuding a Page in another component. This allows you to have Teaser Text specific to a usage and minimizes the chance of another author overwriting your Teaser information if someone else owns the Page you are referencing.
Picture is the CoreMedia Document for images. You can use a JPG or PNG file. Pictures allow the author to choose the center point of the image they are using and adjust the individual aspect ratios available to dsired portion of the image. Note, you should size your images prior to adding to a Picture Document to balance the size (MB) and the quality. While CoreMedia adjusts the image aspect ration selection for the viewport chosen, it does not do any modification the the actual size of the image regardless of what viewport or aspect ratio is needed. Tools are available to optimize your images before you upload them. More information can be found in the Digital Intelligence Governance pages.
CoreMedia allows the use of transparent images. This is not a default functionality though. You will need to set your Pictures to allow the background to be transparent. This is a "Settings" on the System Tab of the Picture Document type in CoreMedia.
* If the Struct property _coloring_ does not exists, create it.
* Add a String property named _background_ to the Struct property _coloring_.
* Add the background color as 00FFFFFF
This is another special purpose CoreMedia Document currently only used for the C009 and C009b Latest News components. This Document allows for both curated (static) content to be added in the Items or for attribute tags (dynamic) content to select the content based on Solr indexed content. You can find additional information on building this component in the Content Authors Guide.
There are a number of "system" files on the website that are CoreMedia Documents called Resource Bundles. These are primarily used as translation files for text that is directly shown on the website which is not directly authored in a component. This allows text to be translated as needed for other locales. This is seen most prominently in search results pages for tag names although there are many other uses.
Overview
This CoreMedia Document type allows you to create a search query that can then be used in a CTA or other context to send a user to a pre-filtered search result.
General (On-Site) Search
This use case allows you to prefilter a search result set and land the user on a predetermined tab of the search results.
On the Content tab of the Search Teaser you have the option to enter a Search Term directly, select one or more Tags, or both. None are required. You should build your query based on the Tags used in the facets of the tab you intend to land on. If you wish to further refine your search beyond filters then add Search Terms as well. For the Tags, You can enter zero or one Business Platform values. This is a single select option in the search results so selecting more than one is not useful. Only the first value will be considered. As you are intending to land on the search results page, there is no Target Content target as the search results page is assumed by default. To select the tab you wish to land the user on, select the appropriate radio button in the "Target Tab" list.
If this Search Teaser is used in a traditional CTA you can set the Teaser Title for the CTA label. This should work in most use cases, although some components may be configured to use another field.
News & Events Search
This use case takes the user to the News & Events page with prefiltered news and events results. This is discussed in the C009 Content Authors' Guide page.
This will be set up similar to the General Search above. On the Content tab of the Search Teaser you have the option to enter a Search Term directly, select one or more Tags, or both. None are required. You should build your query based on the Tags used in the facets of the News & Events page. If you wish to further refine your search beyond filters then add Search Terms as well. For the Tags, You can enter zero or one Topic Area values. This is a single select option on the News & Events page so selecting more than one is not useful and only the first value will be considered. As you are intending to land on the News & Events page, you need that page set as the Target Content target. The "Target Tab" list is not used in this case as it is only for the General Search results page.
If this Search Teaser is used in a traditional CTA you can set the Teaser Title for the CTA label. This should work in most use cases, although some components may be configured to use another field.
This CoreMedia Document is another system type file that allows a number of actions to function on the website such as how News & Events and Search facets are shown as well as CoreMedia Vanity URLs and other items. These CoreMedia documents are primarily located on the System tab of the Homepage. More information can be found on the Homepage section.
While you will rarely create a Tag through "create new content" in the Library, it is useful to know this CoreMedia Document type. Most often you will use the CoreMedia Studio > Apps > Tags functionality to see the Tag tree structure to edit and add new tags. More information on the Tags app is in the Studio section.
CoreMedia has been configured to allow for videos from YouTube, Youku, and Brightcove. You must know the correct syntax of the video URL in order to have it function correctly in a given component or as part of an HTML Fragment.
